Letters from a homeless teen

Please share your thoughts about early entrepreneurship and enlightened mentorship as ideas for homeless prevention. Street newspapers are excellent micropreneurship opportunities. Teens can learn the ins and outs of sales and distribution and even move into writing and editing if the have a passion for the written word. Most teens I know love poetry and this could be their in.

World Medical Relief Office: 313-866-5333 ext. 243, Cell: 517-652-3149

Detroit, September 15, 2011—The Blanket Relief for Area Shelters is the program that collects and distributes blankets for the homeless shelters and other human service agencies serving the homeless in Wayne , Oakland and Macomb County.

It is a community wide effort relying on individuals, schools, churches, business, and service clubs to collect money and new twin size blankets for World Medical Relief, which is the agency managing the program.

On Thursday September 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. World Medical Relief opens its doors with a special kick-off event to give more people a chance to become part of this crucial community program.

Versandra Kennebrew, local author and educator, will speak about how she became homeless and how she recovered. A lunch will be served.

It is a free event but participants are asked to bring donations of new twin size blankets or a monetary contribution to the program. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Please call 313-866-5333 ext. 222 or by e-mail events@worldmedicalrelief.org

Without this program the homeless families, men, women and children do not have blankets to keep themselves warm in Michigan ’s frigid winters.

World Medical Relief hopes to distribute 18,000 blankets to 70 homeless shelters and other human service agencies in early November.

With its headquarters in Detroit , World Medical Relief was established in 1953 to address the needs of Korean War orphans. Over the years, the organization has expanded its mission by providing medical aid to thousands of underserved people in the Detroit metropolitan area and in over 100 developing nations worldwide.
